Lick of the Day

Tremolocity

From: Jeff McErlain's Blues Licks Vol. 1

Tremolo picking is a crucial technique, and you can define it like so: pick as fast as you can! This lick is borrowed from another master of the genre, Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan. I highly suggest you take to YouTube and look up some videos of him playing, as it will definitely open your eyes to a wide range of approaches to blues guitar. His physical dominance over the instrument has a huge effect on his tone and attack, and you can get those skills too! An SRV lick won't sound quite right unless you attack the instrument in that same way, so with this one, it's as much about learning the style as it is learning which notes to play. With that said, it's an interesting approach to play this lick softly, and a great way to practise that tremolo picking in a new way.
